13 March 2020 –  Update on Cornavirus Advice

There is an update on advice about Coronavirus after the Government statements yesterday, 12th March 2020.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-51711227

It recommends staying at home and self-isolate for 7 days if you have new symptoms of a dry cough or high temperature. If symptoms persist or get worse after this, then call NHS111. This is going to go on for a long time and we need to protect ourselves and others by limiting contact and interactions.

2nd March 2020 | Advice for Foster Carers around Covid–19 (formally known as Coronavirus)

Following on from our previous communication shared with all foster carers on the 14th of February 2020, we wanted to take the opportunity to write to families to share the latest advice by the Department for Education on the outbreak of Covid – 19 in China and other parts of the world.

The Government is continuing to closely monitor the spread of Covid – 19 and is taking action at home and abroad. The overall risk of coronavirus to the UK remains Moderate.

The advice for parents/foster carers/guardians stresses that there is no reason to be unduly worried about the possibility of children and looked after children catching the virus. There is no reason why children should not continue to attend school, extracurricular activities and use the public transport unless otherwise advised by the school or the government.

Please stay alert to communication from children’s schools in relation to Coronavirus and any cases reported at children’s school is shared with the Agency and the placing Local Authority.

You may be aware that advice for travellers from affected areas has recently changed and this may affect foster carers and children returning from trips overseas. Please note that a recent outbreak of the virus has been reported in Iran and Northern Italy.

Please see some IMPORTANT advice below, especially to those who have recently travelled to the following countries and what necessary actions to be taken: If you, or members of your family have recently returned from any of the above locations please share this information with the Agency in total confidence. We will be happy to advice you on further course of action. Please do not hesitate to contact Shining Stars Fostering

Agency (Office: 020 8263 6260) or your Supervising Social Worker if you have any further questions or concerns.

What action you can take:

A UK wide campaign has been launched to provide clear advice on how to slow the spread of Coronavirus. Please help to support the campaign which promotes basic hygiene practices, such as regularly washing hands and always sneezing into a tissue, and carrying a pocket hand sanitiser to stem the spread of viruses.

Please continue to talk openly to your children about Coronavirus. Find out what it is they might be fearful of and what they already know about it. An honest discussion will ensure that children are informed by facts.
