Ramazan, Ramazan Mosque, Allah, ArabicThe holy month of Ramadan has started, and we would like to send our very best wishes to all our Muslim Foster Carers and their families, who will be observing this special time of the year.

Ramadan during lockdown (Covid-19)

Fasting is an important feature in Islam, as it is in many other religions. There are several exceptions where some Muslims do not fast due to illness or having a long-term medical condition, and those that are pregnant or breastfeeding, elderly, children or women undergoing menstrual cycles.

Traditionally, Ramadan is a time for spiritual reflection, communal prayer, meals with extended family and friends to break daily fasts and concludes with the community celebration of Eid-Ul-Fitr.

However, this Ramadan will be very different due to the current coronavirus pandemic as Mosques will remain closed and we won’t be visiting family and friends as this is important to help stop the spread of the virus. It is our duty to follow the guidelines set by the government (see below). They are clear, and also apply during Ramadan.

The whole of the country is making huge efforts and sacrifices during this challenging time. Ramadan teaches us to be patient and reminds us of our shared obligations and morals to others. It furthermore gives us the message of showing empathy to those in hardship and to give charity.

This is indeed a difficult time but with perseverance we will Insh’allah (God willing) get through this challenging period for all of us.

Coronavirus (COVID-19): what you need to do

Stay at home

  • Only go outside for food, health reasons or work (but only if you cannot work from home)
  • If you go out, stay 2 metres (6ft) away from other people at all times
  • Wash your hands as soon as you get home

Do not meet others, even friends or family. Anyone can spread the virus.

Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save lives.
